Salutation to our Martyrs

Major Sandeep Unni Krishnan (misspelled in the image)

Voices against terror

With terror attacks in Mumbai, it has undoubtedly got everyone on their toes and united the citizens of India. Below is a compilation of some of the mails from different points-of-views, which I received.

12th Dec, 2008...Hotel Taj: Icon of whose India?

by Gnani Sankaran-

Watching at least four English news channels surfing from one
another during the last 60 hours of terror strike made me feel a terror
of another kind. The terror of assaulting one's mind and sensitivity
with cameras, sound bites and non-stop blabbers. All these channels
have been trying to manufacture my consent for a big lie called - Hotel
Taj the icon of India.

Whose India, Whose Icon ?

It is a matter of great shame that these channels simply did not bother
about the other icon that faced the first attack from terrorists - the
Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station. CST is the true
icon of Mumbai. It is through this railway station hundreds of Indians
from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Tamilnadu have
poured into Mumbai over the years, transforming themselves into
Mumbaikars and built the Mumbai of today along with the Marathis and
Kolis

But the channels would not recognise this. Nor would they recognise the
thirty odd dead bodies strewn all over the platform of CST. No Barkha
dutt went there to tell us who they were. But she was at Taj to show us
the damaged furniture and reception lobby braving the guards. And the
TV cameras did not go to the government run JJ hospital to find out who
those 26 unidentified bodies were. Instead they were again invading the
battered Taj to try in vain for a scoop shot of the dead bodies of the
page 3 celebrities.

In all probability, the unidentified bodies could be those of
workers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh migrating to Mumbai, arriving by
train at CST without cell phones and pan cards to identify them. Even
after 60 hours after the CST massacre, no channel has bothered to cover
in detail what transpired there.

The channels conveniently failed to acknowledge that the Aam Aadmis of
India surviving in Mumbai were not affected by Taj, Oberoi and Trident
closing down for a couple of weeks or months. What mattered to them was
the stoppage of BEST buses and suburban trains even for one hour. But
the channels were not covering that aspect of the terror attack. Such
information at best merited a scroll line, while the cameras have to be
dedicated for real time thriller unfolding at Taj or Nariman bhavan.

The so called justification for the hype the channels built around
heritage site Taj falling down (CST is also a heritage site), is that
Hotel Taj is where the rich and the powerful of India and the globe
congregate. It is a symbol or icon of power of money and politics, not
India. It is the icon of the financiers and swindlers of India. The
Mumbai and India were built by the Aam Aadmis who passed through CST
and Taj was the oasis of peace and privacy for those who wielded power
over these mass of labouring classes. Leopold club and Taj were the
haunts of rich spoilt kids who would drive their vehicles over sleeping
Aam Aadmis on the pavement, the Mafiosi of Mumbai forever financing the
glitterati of Bollywood (and also the terrorists) , Political brokers
and industrialists.

It is precisely because Taj is the icon of power and not people, that the terrorists chose to strike.

The terrorists have understood after several efforts that the Aam Aadmi
will never break down even if you bomb her markets and trains. He/she
was resilient because that is the only way he/she can even survive.

Resilience was another word that annoyed the pundits of news
channels and their patrons this time. What resilience, enough is
enough, said Pranoy Roy's channel on the left side of the channel
spectrum. Same sentiments were echoed by Arnab Goswami representing the
right wing of the broadcast media whose time is now. Can Rajdeep be far
behind in this game of one upmanship over TRPs ? They all attacked
resilience this time. They wanted firm action from the government in
tackling terror.

The same channels celebrated resilience when bombs went off in trains
and markets killing and maiming the Aam Aadmis. The resilience of the
ordinary worker suited the rich business class of Mumbai since work or
manufacture or film shooting did not stop. When it came to them, the
rich shamelessly exhibited their lack of nerves and refused to be
resilient themselves. They cry for government intervention now to
protect their private spas and swimming pools and bars and restaurants,
similar to the way in which Citibank, General Motors and the ilk cry
for government money when their coffers are emptied by their own
ideologies.

The terrorists have learnt that the ordinary Indian is unperturbed
by terror. For one whose daily existence itself is a terror of
government sponsored inflation and market sponsored exclusion, pain is
something he has learnt to live with. The rich of Mumbai and India Inc
are facing the pain for the first time and learning about it just as
the middle classes of India learnt about violation of human rights only
during emergency, a cool 28 years after independence.

And human rights were another favourite issue for the channels to whip at times of terrorism.

Arnab Goswami in an animated voice wondered where were those champions
of human rights now, not to be seen applauding the brave and selfless
police officers who gave up their life in fighting terorism. Well, the
counter question would be where were you when such officers were
violating the human rights of Aam Aadmis. Has there ever been any 24
hour non stop coverage of violence against dalits and adivasis of this
country?

This definitely was not the time to manufacture consent for the extra
legal and third degree methods of interrogation of police and army but
Arnabs don't miss a single opportunity to serve their class masters,
this time the jingoistic patriotism came in handy to whitewash the
entire uniformed services.

The sacrifice of the commandos or the police officers who went down
dying at the hands of ruthless terrorists is no doubt heart rending but
in vain in a situation which needed not just bran but also brain.
Israel has a point when it says the operations were misplanned
resulting in the death of its nationals here.

Khakares and Salaskars would not be dead if they did not commit the
mistake of traveling by the same vehicle. It is a basic lesson in
management that the top brass should never t ravel together in crisis.
The terrorists, if only they had watched the channels, would have
laughed their hearts out when the Chief of the Marine commandos, an
elite force, masking his face so unprofessionally in a see-through
cloth, told the media that the commandos had no idea about the
structure of the Hotel Taj which they were trying to liberate. But the
terrorists knew the place thoroughly, he acknowledged.

Is it so difficult to obtain a ground plan of Hotel Taj and discuss
operation strategy thoroughly for at least one hour before entering?
This is something even an event manager would first ask for, if he had
to fix 25 audio systems and 50 CCtvs for a cultural event in a hotel.
Would not Ratan Tata have provided a plan of his ancestral hotel to the
commandos within one hour considering the mighty apparatus at his and
government's disposal? Are satelite pictures only available for
terrorists and not the government agencies ? In an operation known to
consume time, one more hour for preparation would have only improved
the efficiency of execution.

Sacrifices become doubly tragic in unprofessional circumstances. But
the Aam Aadmis always believe that terror-shooters do better planning
than terrorists. And the gullible media in a jingoistic mood would not
raise any question about any of these issues.

They after all have their favourite whipping boy - the politician the
eternal entertainer for the non-voting rich classes of India.

Arnabs and Rajdeeps would wax eloquent on Manmohan Singh and Advani
visiting Mumbai separately and not together showing solidarity even at
this hour of national crisis. What a farce? Why can't these channels
pool together all their camera crew and reporters at this time of
national calamity and share the sound and visual bites which could mean
a wider and deeper coverage of events with such a huge human resource
to command? Why should Arnab and Rajdeep and Barkha keep harping every
five minutes that this piece of information was exclusive to their
channel, at the time of such a national crisis? Is this the time to
promote the channel? If that is valid, the politician promoting his own
political constituency is equally valid. And the duty of the politican
is to do politics, his politics. It is for the people to evaluate that
politics.

And terrorism is not above politics. It is politics by other means.

To come to grips with it and to eventually eliminate it, the practice
of politics by proper means needs constant fine tuning and improvement.
Decrying all politics and politicians, only helps terrorists and
dictators who are the two sides of the same coin. And the rich and
powerful always prefer terrorists and dictators to do business with.

Those caught in this crossfire are always the Aam Aadmis whose deaths
are not even mourned - the taxi driver who lost the entire family at
CST firing, the numerous waiters and stewards who lost their lives
working in Taj for a monthly salary that would be one time bill for
their masters.

Postscript: In a fit of anger and depression, I sent a message to
all the channels, 30 hours through the coverage. After all they have
been constantly asking the viewers to message them for anything and
everything. My message read: 'I send this with lots of pain. All
channels, including yours, must apologise for not covering the victims
of CST massacre, the real mumbaikars and aam aadmis of India. Your
obsession with five star elite is disgusting. Learn from the print
media please. No channel bothered.' Only srinivasan Jain replied: you
are right. We are trying to redress balance today. Well, nothing
happened till the time of writing this 66 hours after the terror attack.

Response from Sri regarding above way of looking at it....and I agree with him

Its just another view point as many have come forth on this topic. If the terrorists were holed up in the CST instead of the Taj. Do you think they would have covered Taj or CST???!!!

I think its pretty basic. The news channels would be where the ruckus us happening and not happened! They want live coverage....! Guess someone got overworked is my opinion. The wrong doing is to have not covered the dead....but u cant ask the news reporters to stand at CST when live action is at Taj!

Plus whicch channel was the dude watching? DId he see that to this day the vdo footage of CST is played on the terror attacks?

Luv
Sri

04th Dec 2008 ------ A letter supposedly from the Editor, Times of India to Prime Minister ----------
 LETTER TO PRIME MINISTER

Dear Mr. Prime minister

I am a typical mouse from Mumbai. In the local train compartment which has capacity of 100 persons, I travel with 500 more mouse. Mouse at least squeak but we don't even do that.

Today I heard your speech. In which you said 'NO BODY WOULD BE SPARED'. I would like to remind you that fourteen years has passed since serial bomb blast in Mumbai took place. Dawood was the main conspirator. Till today he is not caught. All our bolywood actors, our builders, our Gutka king meets him but your Government can not catch him. Reason is simple; all your ministers are hand in glove with him. If any attempt is made to catch him everybody will be exposed. Your statement 'NOBODY WOULD BE SPARED' is nothing but a cruel joke on this unfortunate people of India.

Enough is enough. As such after seeing terrorist attack carried out by about a dozen young boys I realize that if same thing continues days are not away when terrorist will attack by air, destroy our nuclear reactor and there will be one more Hiroshima.

We the people are left with only one mantra. Womb to Bomb to Tomb. You promised Mumbaikar Shanghai what you have given us is Jalianwala Baug.

Today only your home minister resigned. What took you so long to kick out this joker? Only reason was that he was loyal to Gandhi family. Loyalty to Gandhi family is more important than blood of innocent people, isn't it?

I am born and bought up in Mumbai for last fifty eight years. Believe me corruption in Maharashtra is worse than that in Bihar. Look at all the politician, Sharad Pawar, Chagan Bhujbal, Narayan Rane, Bal Thackray , Gopinath Munde, Raj Thackray, Vilasrao Deshmukh all are rolling in money.  Vilasrao Deshmukh is one of the worst Chief minister I have seen. His only business is to increase the FSI every other day, make money and send it to Delhi so Congress can fight next election. Now the clown has found new way and will increase FSI for fisherman so they can build concrete house right on sea shore. Next time terrorist can comfortably live in those house , enjoy the beauty of sea and then attack the Mumbai at their will.

Recently I had to purchase house in Mumbai. I met about two dozen builders. Everybody wanted about 30% in black. A common person like me knows this and with all your intelligent agency & CBI you and your finance minister are not aware of it. Where all the black money goes? To the underworld isn't it? Our politicians take help of these goondas to vacate people by force. I myself was victim of it. If you have time please come to me, I will tell you everything.

If this has been land of fools, idiots then I would not have ever cared to write you this letter. Just see the tragedy, on one side we are reaching moon, people are so intelligent and on other side you politician has converted nectar into deadly poison. I am everything Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Schedule caste, OBC, Muslim OBC, Christian Schedule caste, Creamy Schedule caste only what I am not is INDIAN. You politician have raped every part of mother India by your policy of divide and rule.

Take example of former president Abdul Kalam. Such a intelligent person, such a fine human being. You politician didn't even spare him.  Your party along with opposition joined the hands, because politician feels they are supreme and there is no place for good person.

Dear Mr Prime minister you are one of the most intelligent person, most learned person. Just wake up, be a real SARDAR. First and foremost expose all selfish politician. Ask Swiss bank to give name of all Indian account holder. Give reins of CBI to independent agency. Let them find wolf among us. There will be political upheaval but that will better than dance of death which we are witnessing every day.  Just give us ambient where we can work honestly and without fear. Let there be rule of law. Everything else will be taken care of.
Choice is yours Mr. Prime Minister. Do you want to be lead by one person or you want to lead the nation of 100 Crore people?

03rd Dec 2008  -----------------------------------

Message to the Morons…

Please....it is not audacious, it is not daring and it certainly is not well coordinated. Please stop the using terms that are reserved for when something is being protected, something is being rescued and something is being saved, all courageous actions. If someone wants to throw around adverbs and adjectives to describe the insanity that started it all and that is still unraveling at Mumbai, call it timid, call it cowardly and call it desperate (for attention). It does not take balls to walk into a crowded place and spray bullets all around and kill people. It does not require great degree of co-ordination to come prepared with arms and almonds, take unarmed people as hostages and remained holed up in some dark corners of a huge hotel, like some vampires afraid of the light, and count the seconds till their eventual and inevitable horrible deaths. So call them what they are. THEY ARE COWARDS. NOTHING MORE. NOT HOLY WARRIORS, NOT JIHADIS, NOT MILITANTS. PLAIN COWARDS. It is a waste of time and energy to even try to string together a rational argument/explanation for why such dastardly acts are perpetrated by ghastly ghouls. Oppression of minorities, Babri Masjid, Godhra incident, Mumbai riots and the aftermath bomb blasts - though these merchants of death try to cite the above reasons to incite a sense of shame and try to trip the country in guilt into thinking that, in some twisted way, it brought this all upon itself, make no mistake, this is not about retribution, this is not about revenge and this certainly is not about retaliation. This is about a bunch of losers, who have lost all purpose in life, trying to escape the misery in their own lives. And the only way they know - pulling down others with him, than pulling themselves up. For a little while, the losers have certainly managed to achieve their agenda. Yes, the entire country is awash with misery. Not because of the gloom or doom or even the prospect of it, but because of the natural human reaction to CARE about their fallen fellow beings, a trait that even the thoughtless animals possess, and something that these beasts have long lost. If anyone sees the country, and particularly Mumbai on its knees now, it is because it has bent down to feel sorry, express regret, and mourn alongside its fallen innocent and unwitting victims, and not because it has been BROUGHT DOWN to its knees. Losers, try to understand the difference between the two!
Idiots, you are not the first ones to launch a mindless attack and terrorize people into subjugation. Your ancestors, forefathers, and many others before came in from that same direction and have tried this irrational tactic from thousands of years, with waves and waves of invasions. This country is not new to attacks, and you are no different from them. (At least, some of those plunderers waged conventional warfares. They didn't hide in corners and shoot at the crowds from the dark). But in your puny minds, you failed to grasp a very simple fact. Babar is no more, Ghajini is no more, Ghori is no more, Khilji is no more, but INDIA IS STILL HERE, and its people are still here, and its children and their children would still be here, proudly STANDING, long after you are gone. You are not misguided youth. Misguided youth torch buses and destroy government property, at worst. You are a frustrated lot. You are frustrated, because the rest of the world has left you behind, and marched towards progress on the road of betterment. You are frustrated because you don't see any prospect to look forward to, any hope on the horizon, in effect, any valid reason to live for. And so you take that frustration out on others. By killing others. You know what some people cursed with the same misfortune do in the country you attacked? They don't kill other people. At best, they curse their luck, and go on about their lives, as rag-pickers, as beggars, as bums. They do not cloak their impotence and frustration in some extreme interpretations of religious texts and go about massacring people. Your own religious text calls a Jihadi as a holy warrior, a pious soldier. But doing what you did, you are not pious, you are pitiful, and you certainly are not a warrior, you are, at best, a rabies stricken dog, which goes about biting and attacking people (and in the dog's defense, rabies infects the brain and its judgment. In your case, your interpretation of your religion proved to be your rabies).
All that you managed with your bullets and grenades, apart from taking innocent lives, is BRING A COUNTRY TOGETHER. Here is what is going to happen to the country and its people, after some of you are captured and some of you are mercilessly killed. NOTHING. The country will pick up the pieces, just like it has been doing from a long long time, and go about its way. The people will recover from the initial shock, and get on with their lives, just like they have been doing since eons. That is because terrorism, at best, can leave a scar, a scar that will mend and disappear with the passage of time. Terrorism cannot bring about a change of hearts, a radical revolution and herald in a new world you wished for where religious extremism is practiced and progress is turned back in time. It never had, and it never will, not here, not anywhere, and certainly not in civilized societies. You remain the pest you always were and always will be, that will be crushed under the foot of collective cause of like-minded agendas. The society recognizes you will not completely die off. As long as there is frustration, as long as there is false hope, as long as there are religious zealots spewing false prophecies, and importantly, as long as there is a loser pool that these false prophets can tap into, the society recognizes that attacks like these will continue, many more people will be martyred (you are not the martyrs, the people who are killed are the true martyrs, because their deaths would amount to something eventually, unlike yours) at the altar of freedom. The same city that you attacked many times before has become one of the important players in financial, social, political and cultural sectors in the world. And it has gone from strength to strength with each attack. And that alone should have given you an indication as to how hopeless your cause (if you can even call it that) is. And if you think, it is a masterstroke to target the guests of the country, and terrorize them into leaving the place, you know nothing about economics (among everything else). The entire world recognizes that this is not a problem of one country, one religion and one society. Just as your kind bandied together to become a border-less organization, the world is coming together to become a boundary-less society when dealing with your menace. In opening up the world that way, you forgot to realize that you cannot run anywhere, you cannot hide anywhere, no country will give you the protection and backing you seek without jeopardizing its own image and prospects in the eyes of the world. In effect, every ghastly action of yours is bringing the world one step closer. If prosperity does not bring the world together, this adversity certainly will. You false leaders may use the phrase - in the end, your agenda will be achieved - during your brainwashing sessions. But, the rest of the world does not use the term "In the end", there is no end here. We will prevail, and we will continue to do so and prosper, AT YOUR COST.

WORRY about those who have come thru votes....
Those are our REAL ENEMIES….

2. What a shame and disgrace to every citizen of India that the elite NSG Force was transported into ordinary BEST buses, whereas our cricketers are transported into state of the art luxury buses, these Jawans lay down their lives to protect every Indian and these cricketers get paid even if they lose a match, we worship these cricketers and forget the martyrdom of these brave Jawans.
The Jawans should be paid the salaries of the cricketers and the cricketers should be paid the salaries of the Jawans.

Terror Terror Traumatic -error!

I know hundreds of people are going to write, talk, debate about this episode. Let me be yet another person!

What has happened (in magnitude) is something that was not witnessed in India for a long long time. It was massive. Mumbai, a stamped resilient city, was hit this time harder than ever before, with only 1993 blasts coming close to this. There are many many questions that rise in our minds, each and every Mumbaite's, Indian's minds. Who is going to answer them? No one, as usual. There is no authority who claims responsibility for the security lapse. There is no one authority who takes decision in this kind of crisis situation. NSA - National Security Advisor is supposed to be the one who can deal with these kinds of situations but he is a 75 year old, theorist. He does not know the ground reality. Never had fought or lead a team in fights and wars. How can anyone expect such a person to react correctly, accurately, practically, rationally, and also emotionally humanly?

Pak is blamed. But no point in having another Bush in India bombing Pakistan. That is not the solution - innocent people for innocent people! Terrorists are not born. They are prepared. They are made to realise how important their mission is. How they can be the next messaiahs on earth! Lashkar-e-Taiba's marine wing, a group under Al-Qeda is pointed out as one behind these attacks. Maximum the world together can do is kill one and all from LeT, Al-Qeda and reign supreme. But what is the guarantee that such similar group will not take birth in future? If a stronger group exists somewhere else?

With about 20-30 terrorists (max), we had about thousands of security guards including policemen, MARCOS, NSGs, Army, RAFs needed with about 59hours from the Kaaleshwar. Now these terrorist groups are made of huge man-power, undoubtedly. Though there is no confirmation or authority on that, theres is a huge group. If there are even say, just about 1000 such individuals, they can simultaneously get into atleast one capital city of each state. That would mean about 900 terrorists would be able to carry out a similar terrorists attack in every state. To get similar help in all the states would mean getting thousands and thousands of security guards. Can that be handled by India alone? Can the guards at borders be relieved for this operation?

Whatever it maybe, it would be a definite chaos...mostly intolerable and positively uncontrollable. Now, assuming another postulate that they are more than 1000, if they attack one capital city of every country in this world, would the w-o-r-l-d a-r-m f-o-r-c-e-s be enough to tackle them?

Grooming in the dark, closing eyes in the bright sunlight are two different things. But currently both seem to be holding good for India, and world at large, with respect to terrorists.

Update (08th Dec 2008):
Very impressed with what Aamir has written on his blog. I think what we have been thinking over here, has been very cleanly and clearly put by him. Have a look here.

Man, Medicine and Money

“Sir, but outside they said that I need to undergo a surgery. How come you are telling me that it is not required?” asked the patient worried.
“You do not have a trouble which needs surgery. These medicines are enough to provide relief” replied the counselor. But the patient is not convinced. He questions again, only to get the same reply, this time sternly. He moves out of the room, wondering if the hospital really provides any services.

These are few patients that we come across in our arena. To some of this kind, I myself have answered, who were bold enough to stop me and ask. I told them two stories that I was a witness to: One of my mom and another of my granny. My Mom was told in Mumbai that she needs to undergo knee surgery because she had arthritis. Doctors were ready to put her on an operation table the very next day. But she did not want to. So, she waited and when she came here, visited our hospital for a second opinion. Here the consultant declined surgery prospects, as the doctor had done in the above incident. She was advised physiotherapy and few exercises. It’s been more than a year now. One who could not sit on the ground, struggled walking more than half a kilometer a day, was now fit to sit on the floor and carry on actively with her work.

My granny suffered another ailment which, as per the doctors in Mumbai, had to be cured through surgery. By the time they were to decide if surgery was required or not, they had gobbled up more than half a lakh. They repeated something which was already performed and had concluded with the same results. This was unasked for, yet was made ‘part of their study-process’. If this was not enough, surgery and non-definite outcome was all that they could offer us. What to do? Simple. Got her here, showed it to our surgeon. Who, as usual, declined surgery and finished the stuff with a procedure which was piece-meal. End result - less pain, better output.

It is not to say that every ailment can been cured with minor procedures, and surgeries are hyperbolic representations. But, surgery is performed when surgery is the only option. Minor procedures are undertaken to tackle the minor issues. These minor issues do not require surgeries. If one asks any surgeon, they will emphasize that surgery is the last resort and is only the last option for any surgeon. First they will like to get rid of the diagnosed problem with medicines, and anything that is not a surgery. But invariably, these ‘outside’ doctors have suggested surgery to many a patients who do not need it.

Anyone will say it is because of money. If they want to mint money, they will ask for more money, unnecessary money. It is very easy to point out and blame them. But an inquiry to this action tells us it is because of the way they have become doctors. They studied in years when every other colleague who was an engineer or a journalist or a model was minting money. These future doctors were spending lakhs of their parent’s money, when their counter-mates were giving the same amount, monthly, to their parents. By the time they have a ‘minting’ good qualification, almost whole of their youth (about age from 15 to 30yrs) is over.

Finally when they start practicing medicine, how can one expect them to indulge themselves in social service! They too need money to survive. They too, have the responsibility of taking care of their parents, especially these parents who have spent a fortune on their child.

One argument can be, one should realise in the beginning itself about the scarcity existing at the end of this tunnel, glooming the promised light and refrain from entering this profession.

A New Look

All said and done, money one surgeon gets, currently, is a huge sum and covers up for the debts within few initial years. After which everything is a bonus. The question that gets raised now is the balance aspect. Balance between the number of years spent to become a doctor, amount of money spent in doing so, money charged to recover the expenditure and security of future. If these aspects are looked at, properly calculated, then there might be a ray of hope or a black-hole, depending on the outcome of the calculations.

If education system can improve its standards and get a person degree at a faster pace, then that would be appreciated by all the to-be-doctors. Apart, if a person decides to become a doctor at an early age, then provisions to help such students might improve the student’s quality of life by helping him/her reach his/her’s goal earlier. With the repercussions, this doctor might be in a better situation early.

Second aspect is, money spent in getting the degree. If there is any possibility of reducing the currently placed cost against these studies, then that too would not put much pressure on the parent’s of students. As a result, more students might get into this field. This might lead to reduced cost for patients, thanks to competition that might start and theory on survival of the fittest. This will also enable a person with a ‘social service’ heart to get into it, without much reservation.

This was just at thought. Incase it helps, a new face might emerge, a bit more human this time.

Cries of a root

One day a root cried out to God, “What crime have I committed that I am always ignored, remembered only when I have to be killed?

All the hard work rests on me, tirelessly searching, finding food for tree;
Unseen, hidden I always lie, without a complain ever in my eye.

I struggle growing, spreading in the hard ground, held so tightly together by the mother earth, fighting throughout my life. Yet slowly & deeply I tirelessly penetrate only to nourish and experience the joy of my flowers blooming and opening their morning eyes to see this great creation of Yours, greeting the warm morning rays.

Bearing all the dirt underground, I feel proud to see my creation, flowers. But O Lord, inspite of the entire burden taken by me, why is it that flowers always find a place at your lotus feet and not me???”

God smiled.
He looked at him compassionately. He waited for a moment to pass and then said, “Without you, where are flowers. Without your existence, how can flowers grow? You are the reason for the flowers to flourish. You are the reason for their standing high to receive the warm rays of sun. Isn’t their reaching me amount you reaching me?

O child, it is because of my extreme love for you that I keep you always in my bosom. Not letting you leave me. Even a flower which owes its existence to you betrays you, leaves you. But I do not leave you. Did you ever realize your working harder gets you closer and deeper into me?”

He then took him by his hand and made him sit in his lap. He continued, “Your birth is in me, your growth is in me, finally when your end nears you, your death is in me. You are kept away from all the sufferings of this world: heat, cold and wind. You are safe with me, in me.

You are never far away from me, O child, then where is the question of you reaching me. You are living in Me than I living in you. How much ever hard you work, the peak of the tree will never reach Me in skies, whereas irrespective of your abilities, capabilities and activities, you are within me ever. Because of your association with the tree, it gets all the advantages of My association with you.

I am so possessive about you that I do not even let anyone see you lest, they take you away from me.

You selflessly sustain the tree, in turn animals, birds and man too. You are the basis for my creation. What more credit, rank and position could I give you son!

People talk of me as unknown and unseen. Aren’t you too, in the same way, unknown and unseen? I am the creator, sustainer and destroyer of this world. But you are a notch higher than me, since you are the creator and sustainer of the tree, birds and animals, thus ultimately supporting the life-force on earth. Destroying is left only to Me and man.” God laughed.

“Realize you are as much of Me as much as you know you are Me.”

Root silently slid and rested in God’s lap, into a peaceful sleep ever granted.

This post was never planned or intended. It visited me last evening...I just allowed it to write...flow...

God – an Individual or a Designation?

Administration

We know of the God-trio: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva (Please append “Lord” ahead of each of their names incase they are particular about it :) ). Then we have lord Indra, Surya, etc etc. According to Indian philosophy, we have 3 crores, 33 lakhs, 33 thousands, 3 hundred and thirty 3. If we follow the structure of each Gods positioning in Heaven, Hell (are their Gods here in form of demons?), we will know it’s another governance system like our present government, lead by President, Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, Governors, etc. etc.

After having said all this said, on our other hand we have our mind-blowing mythology (I call it mind-blowing, because we truly don’t know how magnificent is our past, Mythology, Vedas, Upanishads, etc.) which say God is one. Aham Brahmasmi (I am God), Ekonaam Bahusyaami (One God called by different names), Sahasrasheersha Purusha, Sahasraaksha….. Here it gets perplexing. One end we say, there are crores of Gods. At another front we say God is one. Maybe we are not aware of things in complete perspective. One of the simple reasons being, we do not know our past.

It is said, give importance to the chair one holds even if you do not have any regard for the individual sitting on it. Respect an individual because of the designation he/she holds, if not the individual, at a personal level.

Thus, clubbing our earlier observations, if we fix God as designation, we always have a Supreme God (President) and the subsequent designations that follow it. This position of Supreme God can always be taken by any of the present ‘individuals’ and he becomes He. Implying there is only one God. Earlier Sri Rama took this seat, then was taken by Sri Krishna, Lord Buddha and so on. Thus we understand, Messaih, Allah, Christ, Rama all sat on the same throne and professed same principles. But man got caught with the person on the post than the post as it is happening in our country. We still talk about Atal Bihari Vajpayee, P V Narasimha Rao. But when it comes to all legal documentation, more valid is the designation ‘President of India has approved of Nuclear Deal’. Now if these different ‘individuals’ on the post of God have created hatred among masses, then these ‘individuals’ (idols – as they are talked about in their absentia) are anti-social elements.

Now imagine attrition in this administration. Even this aspect can be imagined and thought of, Privileges that one attains by claiming a particular post - recognition, responsibility. One example can be Person A was writing what an individual is doing on earth (post Chitragupta). From now on ‘A’ will be our Brahma (I mean post Brahma) where he will start writing what a person is expected to do on earth. The difference in these columns (of expected behaviour of a individual to the actual behaviour of the individual) is the difference in Karma that one has performed.

Retirement Plan

But one thing that is a dilemma is whether there is any retirement age for these posts? If yes, then what happens to the post-holders after retirement? The population of their village too would be increasing. Paapam, they don’t even have an option of dying! Do they have any retirement plan? Is there an option of Voluntary Retirement? I doubt. Or is there no concept of retirement?

Now that we have some idea about the administrative structure, let’s move to their creation – MAN. Ofcourse, I am not taking away any credit from them for their creation of remaining 3 crores, 33 lakhs, 33 thousands, 3 hundred and thirty 2.

Documentation

But one think that must be accepted is that there is no proper documentator within their organization. The Dos and Donts of Man should be a available as Rule-book or Instructions, for everyone and anyone whenever man needs to know at any time and any where. Like how we have ‘Help’ documentation for online available softwares and tools. But unfortunately, in this creation, there is no such documentation. Safely and cleverly, the administration passed this baton to MAN. “Boss, you document from your own experience and pass on your knowledge to others”. With this order, it was an obvious that there would be correct documentation and incorrect documentation. Now who was to validate these texts? God Himself had/has to do that. Vedas, Upanishads are the approved ones whereas Novels are rejected ones :)

After the above texts are authorized, many read it, another aspect we hear is that the documentation lies within you. You are the creator, you have the complete knowledge. So find it and you would know about it. But now the ‘bridge gap’ is in knowing how to access these hidden folders within, so that we get the knowledge (or should I say wisdom). The whole jugglery in life and the concept of Sages, Saints, Gods coming on earth is to let us know about this ‘path’ (do I mean ‘address bar’? in Windows Explorer) to these hidden folders. Yeah, we know, in command prompt, you need to know the complete path with the folder name; else you do not have access to them especially if they are hidden. The UI for these folders are these Sages, Saints, Gods, etc. who advent on earth with a certain validity period, after which their license expires and are back into their abode.

Say, we are shown the correct ‘path’ and we do reach the hidden folders, texts, visuals (‘In Mahabharata, Vishwaroopa Darshans’), audio files (remember ‘Akaashvaani’), etc. From now onwards, we learn these lessons and imbibe the teachings, and thus we become the all knowing. All-knowing meaning, one who knows the path to the hidden folders, texts, materials available within them and have also imbibed them. So far so good. Thus, we have knowledge which is same as the ones who came down to earth (Sages, Saints, Gods, etc.) to teach them earlier. Thus we become God. In other words, these are few designations (Technical Officers) who are sent by the Developers to the Client to help them out with these little little issues. Pre-requisite for the client is to understand what the sent Technical Officers convey or want to convey. Gods had Sanskrit as the mother tongue. But, these Technical Officers have improved their versatility over a period of time by becoming multi-lingual. Apart from that – MAN, also has been bestowed with ‘Language Tools’ to overcome these linguistic troubles. To put it, Client-side browser is upgraded (with upgraded Java Engine V8) to handle heavy processing and improve the overall performance of the transmitted data.

Maintenance Plans

There are these periodic reviews on the progress with a threshold limit for defects. Whenever there is heavy loses (in their stock market), the higher decide to take up the Annual (‘annual’ term as defined by them) Maintenance Plan. There is restarting of Servers when the whole world is stopped for a brief period of time. Before Restart, it is made sure that all the connections are handled, that’s when the follow-up of the clients is taken up. Multiple officers (Sages, Saints, who knows maybe even Gods) are sent to this Client, where they try to finish up with connections so that no data is lost, and backups are taken…After this a new Yuga starts.

Interestingly, this client wants to know its vendor’s other clients (Possibly, the other clients too might be in this pursuit). Mars Rover, is one such endeavour. This search for life on other rocks (called planets) has been going on, and is on. Not that the vendor is not aware of it, but they may not get panicky until we catch their other clients and compare our performances with them.

In conclusion, we have a group of developers who continuously are working for this site called Earth, buzy creating multiple projects (species) as experiments…and if it was anywhere closer to Google then surely Man was part of that weekly one hour project! :)

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Who has not heard of this mesmerizing singer. But not everyone knows about his personality. At least I was not aware of it till the following happened.

This saturday I was hooked to my Sony WEGA 2.0 television (Oh God. Everything seems to be coming with some versions; anything to do with Web 2.0?) . Though out of touch with TV for years, Reality-Shows get me hooked on to it, after it got exposured to me recently. Especially with Tata Sky and 5.1 Dolby Channeled television, who can miss the thumping music rocking this young soul ;) That is how my Friday and Saturday evenings and almost whole of Sundays are glued to this supposedly 'idiot' box.

Coming back to Rahat saahab. Who doesnt know him. 'Jiya Dhadak Dhadak...' from Kalyug, 'Main Jahaan Rahoo...' from Namaste London have enthralled and smoothed each and every soul in this country and abroad. This sunday, as I was browsing through multiple Indian channels hosting these reality shows on singing, dancing and comedy, the remote stopped on one program 'Yeh Shaam Mastani' in Sony channel (too much of Sony uh?). He was the guest and he was to be anchored by another famous Minnie Mathur. She did a wonderful job. (Rahat Fateh Ali Khan on Yeh Shaam Mastani)

In this show, they call famous singing personalities, viz. Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shankar Mahadevan, Sukhwinder Singh (end of S's), Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Kailash Kher, Kunal Ganjawala and likes. Some personal things are revealed, some fan-following (they get one of the hard-core fans on the stage to let them talk and sing with these famous personalities) are highlighted. And todays' show had Rahat Saahab. Really, unki awaaz sunthey hi logon ko raahat milti hain (in English: listening to him, gives one comfort, peace, calmness).

He is nephew of sensational singer, Late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. All those who have heard Nusratji, will hear his voice in Rahat saahab. What a voice? In this show, first time I heard him speak. Softly, sweetly...one easily got captivated by him. The way he spoke, reacted and received the compliments...Waah. Its a must watch.

Apart from this show, saw him on another reality-show on singing where, he was one of the judges. On Sonys' Yeh Shaam Mastani, he was a guest to perform. Whereas in this show on singing competition, he was a judge, rating participants. The way he pointed out their shortcomings, gave them suggestions, marks him as a man of high self-respect. Always smiling, down-to-earth attitude, speaking with complete dignity with everyone are the things that will strike first. His traditional grace adds value to tradition itself!

As I searched for his works on net, found that there is new album of his - Charka. Need to hear this (how can one miss his singing!).

He is one person of whom I was a fan because of his songs and singing. Now, I have a become a die-hard fan after having a look at him as a person. Raahat Saab, aap ko salaam! If you are reading this, then please know that I am your big Big BIG Fan! :)

Simply Living...

.

Its fun to observe how we live. We all live with our own notions that we tend to develop from childhood. When we were kids, we lived to grow. As a teenager newly into a college, we were little scared to get ragged in front of other colleagues. Later we got buzy with studies, I need to top the class! This followed by placements, jobs and so on...All these form one aspect of life, the purposeful part to be successful.

But pleasures form that part of life, which we all like to recollect wherever we are, however we are. Nostalgic we are about events that make us smile, laugh and thus always yearn to get back to those days. If we scrutinize, most of the time those are small pleasures that live with us and we love them being with us. Though we all tend to shield ourselves in an external mask, our inner being wants to be free, simple, without any pressures.

It was a chilly wintry morning. I had my cozy overcoat with me that I was wearing everyday to beat the chill thats gonna welcome me on my way to office. The road that leads to my office is without any buildings but with trees on either sides for some part of it and open mountainous light-grassy ground, a sight of beauty, for rest of the 15min ride. The spin gets spicy in winters with this greenary adding their share of coolness to already chill weather.

So I wore my grey, fluffy english overcoat, armed my light sky-blue frog shaped bag on my back, sat on my Ambition and started off. I also put some cotton in my ears to avoid cold catching my ears for in recent past I had suffered from viral. But there was something that was making me feel good that day. I was feeling so good about my self. The reason was, i was not wearing any chappals (footwear). Imagine someone wearing all that packing and finally riding on a bike without any chappals. There could have been a odd, inferior feeling that could have arised in me some years back. But now, I enjoy it. For I know simple things matter most.

  • Having a coffee early morning (I am gonna start from tomorrow, watch out!)
  • Sitting and just chatting...
  • Having a get-together and cooking food for your colleagues (then notice their reactions too!)
  • Watching a movie with your friends
  • Shouting at the top of your voice, when you feel so..
  • Singing in bathroom
  • Taking-off chocolate from a kids' hands
  • Pulling your friends' legs (not literally)
  • Telling each other our bosses' stories and rating them
  • Dancing especially when not known
  • Sitting with friends at a road-end wearing tucked-in formal dress
  • Trying to lick even the last bit of juice from glass
  • Lying down on the grass and looking at clouds, etc...etc...

and most importantly,

  • Learning to love your life
Any more additions to the list...?

Cirkuit of Orkut

Orkut is one social networking site that swept globe in a sweep to such an extent that every household kid seems to be knowing which opening and closing tags are required to render a 'winking' emoticon. I am not here to market orkut or expain its features, but to tell a story of orkut & me. So just sit back, ease yourself and enjoy the read...

Though my first encounter with it dates back to my 1st year Post graduation, I got completely into it only after my post graduation when I was relaxing at home. Within 3-4 days of signing in I found scores of friends, maximum current batch-mates and few oldies (school-mates). That set the ball rolling. Everyday morning till night, I indulged myself on net. What was Google upto? What new Microsoft was trying? How Intel was getting subdued under AMD...all became secondary. Primary was Orkut. How communities in Orkut were so exciting! Reply to a message and keep on traversing to the community just to check as to who felt my message stimulating enough to reply. This went on for days together. All the while finding friends - this kept the excitement on. Within first week, my friends' list crossed two tons!

Soon a feeling captivatedly disturbed me - how could someone block orkut in offices? Infact it should be made mandatory for all to use! Google employees had their share of contribution in using it within their company, among their employees - and Google was growing. So, I was like shouting, you want your company to grow, better allow orkut to be used by your employees...

But the companies appeared more satisfied in displaying,

The URL you tried to visit contains one of the following keywords
orkut.com orkut
falling in the one of the following web categories:
  • Entertainment
  • Chat Sites

  • Please contact your Administrator if you feel this is incorrect.

Arrey baba, every employee would have contacted the system administrator, if only their requests were paid heed to. Never knew whether they would be, with a cold face, bluntly shown their cabin to return to or exit door to help them permanently end their disappointment.

This fascination for orkut took to its heights when the only thing I spoke to anyone I met was ‘Orkut…orkut…orkut…..’ ‘Are you in Orkut?’ ‘What? You don’t know orkut??!!’ (never knew if this added to their assets or my sins!)

Soon I came out of this reverie when the activity of finding, adding friends came to a close, all the features explored and used with possible permutations and combinations. World became silent again.

Now, its once in a fortnight job to check any new activity – primary use still being finding friends. Orkut gets a lot of value for a reason known to all. After oxygen, orkut seems to occupy life-breath of many. Finding old friends still gives orkut all its credibility for existence. It will ever be remembered for getting together long lost friends which was once left to chance, luck…in other words, to God. Even God might be thankful to orkut for relieving Him from one of His responsibilities.

    long live orkut…Long Live Orkut…LONG LIVE ORKUT….

But soon a day may come, where you wont require orkut to find friends. Looking at the trend at which people are getting used to systems and internet, a new born child may very well be presented with a email id as a new born gift on his/her’s naming ceremony day with family name as the domain name! A gift for being born on this planet where not only are humans bound together by the same air touching all of us, same earth under everyone’s feet but also the same web connecting humans virtually through wires and electrical signals.

Orkut is amazing to unearth and find oldies, sharing info about ourselves but communication is still a drawback. Mails is a better choice and that’s what Gmail is for!

    Blog or Diary?

From my diary dated 22nd Feb' 08

Ah! Years passed I touched this book. So, very different I was earlier. Simple readings of my own writings from the past gushes across my mind the thinking and energy I had with me that time.

I have changed a lot from then. Stopped writing in my diary and started a blog, explored it and then it changed. I could never be myself. It looked as though I was writing for others' sake. I had heard that Blog is like an online diary. But I was wrong. It is not.

Diary is for me and me alone apart from few with whom I would like to share my thoughts. Not that blog does not provide that. Blog can be similar with access given to few to read and comment. But use of blog changed my outlook, attitude and understanding rushing past multiple events that eventually reverted me to get back to this paper - my very own diary.

i dont know why but my thoughts seem to flow freely when I pen down my thoughts than e-print them on screen. There is some 'apnapan', some belongingness with ink flowing in strokes, pinning the unseen voiced language to the uniformly glued paper holding the ink effortlessly for posterity for one to read and feel the same years later that I felt today on reading my writing of yesteryears.

Somehow the slant words seem to reflect me better. One may argue that I can choose appropriate font type from the plethora of font-faces available on the screen. But dear friend, my handwriting is not so uniform and perfect for a particular character to appear in the same way all the time, thus not reflecting me! I am not perfect in curves and dashes, thus electronic characters are not me.

Blog, alongwith brings many other options on the screen. Sometimes that seems more than distraction. Whereas here I just have a plain paper, pen and most importantly my thoughts flowing in sync with my thinking, with myself. Atleast for me personally I seem to loose myself when I sit in front of screen to type in my thoughts. This diary-writing is more intuitive. Ofcourse advantage of electronic media cannot be denied in terms of quick-sharing. That may be one of the reasons why this post would make itself to my blog.

What an evening today has been! A good chat and a stroll over a capuccino in the open air with like-minded collegues. Chat about what? About bloging and diaring, IPL, Pervez and what not. To top it, me writing in my diary gets back to me my hostel days where I frequently spent time to fill this same diary. What better setting could have I asked for than this, where currently I am relaxing on my bed, listening to 'Happy Days...', 'Jill Jill Jilla...', 'Arey rey...' from our very own Happy days to repeat the history that left me a couple of years ago...
